To the One Who Feels Like They’re Failing

I just feel like I’m not good enough. I’m trying so hard, but I’m exhausted. Everyone else seems to be doing fine, and I’m barely hanging on. I love my horse so much, but I don’t know if I’m giving him what he deserves. I feel like I’m falling short everywhere.

Dear Anonymous,

First of all - you're NOT failing.

You’re feeling like you’re failing, which is something very different. And feeling that way doesn’t make it true. It makes you human.

This world, the horse world, especially, has a way of making us measure our worth by ribbons, progress charts, training milestones, and how well we keep it together when everything is falling apart. It teaches us that effort only matters if it looks perfect on the outside.

But that’s not real life.

You are showing up. You’re caring deeply. You’re trying while tired. And I promise you that your horse doesn’t measure your love in flawless rounds or perfect rides. He feels you trying and that counts.

You're not meant to carry all of this alone.

You're allowed to feel tired, unsure, or overwhelmed without that meaning you’re broken.

You’re allowed to rest.

You’re still good

Still worthy

Still enough

Thank you for being brave enough to say what so many others feel. Give yourself Time to rest. Time to rediscover why you started this sport in the first place. Time to recalibrate. The horse world is a lot of things, but it is not quick to change. You will not be left behind by taking a breather. Please reach out if you'd like help discovering what your passion is and figuring out how to find your place in our world.

I see you.
